So my flowerhorn pumpkin a male white eye fader has lost his kok almost completely. He is a great eater and very aggressive fish. He never lost any aggression nor does he eat any less if anything he eats more.

One day I noticed his KOK grew dramatically I mean like an inch or two and stayed like that for a week or two. Then suddenly bam it went away kind of like it deflated. Nothing has changed in terms of water quality, food or anything. I checked for hole in head or anything for 3 weeks but nothing has made his kok bigger. He is the same exact fish minus the hump. Is this normal I've never came across a fish that just lost it without an illness or stress. Pumpkin is doing very well other than the kok situation. Can it be the midas/red devil in him that caused it to shrink? His color and everything is just like my red devils orange.

Anyone have any insight on my problem?

Went from this..

The only time I ever see this in my fish is when I leave town and don't feed for several days. Comes back with regular feedings.

Did he have any tankmates that were taken out recently?

Everything was the same literally overnight he went from an okay kok to bam a monster kok to a week later to nothing at all. I just fed him he's getting big fast and nothing out of the ordinary. Not sure I'm puzzled

I'm not sure, never heard of that happening without some kind of change to the fish's environment. I would like to see if anyone has any good insight.

What are the water parameters?
Honestly tested the water a few weeks ago don't remember I had a lfs check if and it was actually pretty good. I checked it twice after and it was pretty good. I have other fish in there and every single fish is acting perfectly normal look healthy no signs of stress or anything.
I was so baffled I mean it's not a concern for me health wise just looks wise. He has a great personality.

This is not a new tank I have fish in here since 2009. That fader has a sister and now she's a fader as well. They both have similar personalities very eager to eat and are at the top of the pecking order.

I'll have an update if anything changes if not it's okay looks like a red devil to me then lol he is a white eye Kamfa fader and he's not sexually mature yet I hear it takes a while for kamfas to mature he's maybe 7 months and maybe 6 inches or so

could It be he lost his place in the fish chain ? When fish lose dominance they also lose dominate traits . such as a kok.

If anything he became the alpha so that's not it at all. He's the most aggressive guy I got but he doesn't bite just chases others at times. He's always done this so does his sister. I can say him and his sister have the same exact personality and she's starting to fade. I have their brother too he's a little wimp lol he's so docile and laid back nothing bothers him. I think he started to fade as well he got dark just like how they both did right before they faded

Question is there a female in tank that he likes, that can mske kok go down but his went way way down What kind foods feeding him , also check your heater, could be shocking water
