please help..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
gars are 8" and 10", both have been in there for about 3 months. endli was in there for abt 4 days. i'm just worried that insectiside from health sprayings got in the water.(govt goes around spraying **** cause of the sudden population explosion in dengue mosquitoes.) anywaya i put them in another tank with cycled water.

oh yes jordan i just saw the post asking for pics...here's before.

and yes, i'm worried...

in the pic were his back is arched...is he normally like that? that could def. be a sign of a water problem. i had a florida w/ a condition that made him look similar to that photo.

also...the fish do look a bit thin.
very nice pattern though. i hope we get this figured out.

no it's normally straight. yeah i love the fact he's white like juvy tropicals. anyways the fish look fine now. will give them some guppies tomorrow and we'll see how.

PS: i hope we get this figured out too:P

my sara stopped eating for a while, and it was just a bacterial infection in the water. sara looked fine just wouldnt eat. your gar are probably immune to whats in the water where as the endi wasn't. dose it with a ****load of aquarium salt a few times over the next week. do 25% change every 3 days and they will start eating again within a fortnight. at least thats what worked for me.

that is exactly what i though when i saw the pattern. pretty cool.

i would wait to see what solomon and richard have to say about this as far as treatment goes or if it's required. i'm not sure i have ever dealt w/ this problem.

i think part of what ausknife said could be true in that the gars were used to the water conditions whereas the endli was not. do you dechlorinate your water? i know it's an obvious question to ask, but you'd be surprised how many people i have talked to who have lost fishes and it turns out they don't use dechlor...

that being said, how is insecticide getting into your water? these fish aren't in a pond are they? if there is something put into the water, it shouldn't be put at damaging levels into drinking water, which i assume is what you use to fill your tanks... any more info on that would help.

as for getting them to eat...they do look a bit skinny, but not necessarily life-threatening yet. keep up with water changes...50% every other day (or ever day if you can afford it) until they start eating. only offer food every other day, doing it every day is not going to help and risks wasting food if they don't eat it. keep us posted and good luck--

okay, the gars are eating! i think the change in water did them good, but just FYI sol, the water was(obviously:P) dechlorinated. as for how the insectiside got into the water, it's a long explanation, but the bottom line is it got in. and yes i used tap water(which is certified for drinking).

thanks to demjor19, E_americanus and ausknife for taking the time to reply. or else i might have not have been able to solve this problem on my own. will update on the gars in the near future, when i go get some pics(maybe after i have a shower.haha)

after a small meal, night colours, so they're really dull now.:P

can see they put on some weight, i can now sleep at night:D

you can't overfiltrate can you. lol one's for a 25g and the other's good for a 15g. that's 40g of filtration for a 30g tank. yay

nice job on the filtration and glad to hear they are eating again! keep up with the water changes on a more frequent basis until the gars are back up to their usual mass. don't feed more to make up for it though, let them catch up naturally...the main variable to change is frequency of water changes until they are back to normal--
