love to know the name of this goby and any other information you can provide.. i know they will eventually be brackish but like to know how big they get etc..thanks!!:D ill get better pics tonight.. he is a cutie!

lots of fish 2370.jpg

dragon/violet goby, Gobioides brousonnetti. Esturine fish... Some people find them difficult to feed as some don't adjust to well to captivity, as they are silt sifters to find their food, and so many people target feed them, but sometimes you get ones that will eat prawn etc readily... individuals I guess. I imagine they would do better with a fine substrate, as they are from muddy/silty areas. They get about 55cm, and are the largest goby in the Carribean I think. Yes they probably will do best in brackish.... but they are found in all salinities, and of course changing too. Nice pick up Liz.

wow thank you..great help and i am going to look everything up.. i will add the substrate tonight.. thanks again DAVO..

Very nice Liz, it does look like a dragon Goby. Cool avatar.

Thanks Bruce.:D and thanks again :D

Liz, they will do fine while small in fresh. They like to hide in caves or under something. Just put in a sand substrate, put some rock or driftwood at an angle against a wall and he will make the rest of the cave. Don't bother with too much decoration as they will dig it up while searching for food. Don't see very well. Very small throat compared to mouth size so they don't eat very large food pieces. Mine eats mainly frozen brine and bloodworms and will take other frozen foods if small enough. Here is what mine looked like when I got him, and this is him at about 7 inches and now at almost 11.
