Don't mix him with convicts a 20gallon is too small to keep this flowerhorn in especially with tank mates. If the 20 is all you have you'll need to get a bigger tank for your flowerhorn they need a 60gallon minimum but a 75-90 is more ideal.

thanks for your answer and concern about tank size.

i think i can gauge the fish being in its proper tank size or not. i keep monster fish too - see my jardini. 20g long is fine for this FH and the two convicts (at 3") atm if they would get along OK. my question was referencing more about the fishes' temperament and their compatibility then tank size.

so will they fight till death? the two convicts are chasing each other from time to time but nothing major between them... i'm thinking of putting the male convict back into the tank first since it's less aggressive and see how thing goes...

yeah, cheap bargain, the cheapest I see around here are about $20-$30 at 3" size and most of them are def low grade red dragons

I was able to get a high quality red dragon from the local hatchery here through my manager at the lfs but at 3" it was still $25 bucks at cost so we're looking at about $70 dollar retail but he has a nice kok...still, you can't beat $4..nice job

thanks. money wasn't really a problem, but cheaper is better always :) just happened to find a lfs that has a new batch of FH in and got it right away...i've never seen them stocking these fish before.

The flowerhorn will most likely end up killing both convicts if kept together. The only way to make a flowerhorn compatible with tank mates is to have a very big tank were territories won't be an issue or to heavily stock your tank. Flowerhorns are typically kept solo unless you're trying to breed them.

Good luck with the community tank... Once the dominant male becomes territorial you'll be left with only one... :-)
