Avoid proteins for him. You must have wood, and you should offer many fresh veggies for him.

Royals also loves driftwood, they are believed to eat the driftwood. Very nice pleco to get for free!

Thanks, I have several piecies of driftwood in the tank and will avoid the alge wafers and give him veggies from now on.

algae wafers aren't necessarily bad, you have to be careful though... if you read the back on some of them, there can be an awful lot of protein foods mixed in. Vegetables are good for added roughage though.
