I recently bought 2 new Viejas. The First fish I bought was labeled as "Rio dos canos vieja" from shark aquarium in New Jersey. I believe its either a Fenestratus or possibly a zonatus. There is alot of red on this guy. its about 5 inches. Also if anyone is familiar with the "Rio dos canos vieja" from shark aquarium in New Jersey, does anyone know if they are wild or have more info for them? There are about 5 more throughout the store in all separated in their own tanks.

The Second fish was bought as a vieja Guttulatus from Aquascapeonline in New Jersey also. I believe that is what it is. There alot of blue on this lil feller. its about 2.5 inches.

Can anyone give me some definitive answers on this ID's please. Thanx.

To me, only because I have rcently purchased both of these myself. The first I would say is a Zonatum. the 2nd Bifasciatum.

i was goint to say the same, but vice versa

1st- bifasciatum
2nd- zonatus

I didnt think there was such a wide margin of species that would be thrown around. I guess Ill have to wait to until they get larger to know for sure. Anyone else want to take a shot?

Well, I only own a Reganis and I can tell you that neither are a Reganis. I know it's not quite the info you're looking to hear but at least I took away one Vieja option?

One of the main features of hartwegi is an overbite.
Bifasciatum has a broken slanted stripe above the lateral line.
They both could be fenestratus, time will tell.
