I have raised these since they were babies but never had ID on them because they kept changing colors all the time.. now i think they are mature and will remain this color and just want to know if they are hybrids or pure.. since in the beginning when i discovered african cichlids i did not know how many types were out there and how so many are mixed.. these guys are almost 2 years old..

common name is electric yellow...i tink;)

Metriaclima lombardoi AKA kenyi

Wow thank you ..that is definitly him.. I have some electric yellows both male and females and although they are close in color the electric yellows have long narrow bodies with black on fins..males have more black and females have less.. and no bars on the body.. just yellow.. we have a whole bunch of baby electric yellows too.. but i am so happy to find out what this guy is...i think i have the mate too.. thanks again

Just got a new picture of electric yellow babies and i take it back, they do have light color bars on their body... i only noticed after i took the picture..

Keep in mind that Metriaclima lombardoi can be very aggressive and need to be kept in large groups in large tanks to keep aggression to a minimum.

On a side note, male Labidochromis caeruleus (Electric yellows) don't have more black than females. Females can have just as much, or more black colouration and can also have egg spots.

So far my Metriaclima lombardoi is very easy going ..he occasionally will chase some of the others but they are all bigger and more aggressive then he is..and thanks for letting me know about the electric yellow coloring... I quess i should not assume because my female is totally yellow with very light amount of black and my male is yellow with alot of black..and every picture i saw of them this is how they looked..so would you go more with the egg spots then then the color to determine the gender?

Wow. Those babies are beautiful. As stated earlier. They do get quite aggresive. One of my friends had some small Kenyii's (about 2inches) in a growout tank with some baby Dempsey's. One of the babies was about 3.5-4" and the Kenyii would lock lips with it! :WHOA: So they do get quite aggresive.
