I cant tell for sure but the face looks to pointy to be chipokae. can we see a pic of full body shot. also Looks too tall to be chipokaee

i moved the thread for you to african forum.. he is a gorgeous... gorgeous guy.. i think he might be a Maylandia callainos (sometimes referred to as Cobalt Zebra, Cobalt Blue Mbuna or Cobalt Blue African Cichlid) is a species of fish in the Cichlidae family. The correct name of its genus is disputed, with some using Maylandia and others Metriaclima.

Lol...I can ensure you that is a chipokae. You're probably getting thrown off by the angle of the pic. I know my africans quite well, if you think it is something other than a chipokae, then say what you think it is. The only other african that looks similar to the chipokae is the m. auratus. But with one this big, there is no mistaking this for a m. auratus.

...You say you can't tell for sure cuz the face looks too pointy, but chipokaes are known for their more pointed snouts.

& to Red Devil, the Metriaclima callainos is a lighter blue and they do not have any horizontal stripes on their bodies. M. Chipokae's are darker blue and purple

Yes the pciture through me off. in addition i didnt discredit anyone elses opinion in my post. i didnt even say i was certain and asked for further pictures. i dont see how hard it is in these forums to state ur opinion without bashing or mocking a previous poster. you could have just easidly stated your opinion and your supporting case without bashing me or making it seem like i dont know what i am talking about. i asked for another picture and didnt say anything matter of factly nor did i point anyone else out as being wrong.
To the original poster. its a chipokae... i guess. no on else need post otherwise.

Well, it sure seemed to me like you were discrediting my opinion by saying it did not look like the chipokae and said the face was too pointy to be a chipokae, but chipokaes are known for their more pointed snouts. Sorry for "bashing"

It's funny how African Cichlids work. Take Pseudotropheus Saulosi's for example: the females are yellow like a Labidochromis Caeruleus (electric yellow) and the dominant males are dark blue like Pseudotropheus Demasoni.

Now, these Melanochromis Chipokae look exactly like male Auratus (but larger, by the looks of it).. Sooo to my question: is there a species of African Cichlid that looks just like the female Auratus? And continues to look that way into maturity whether male or female?

M. Chipokae do not look exactly like male auratus to me...

& no there is not another cichlid that looks like the female auratus that I'm aware of, and I've seen hundreds and maybe even thousands of africans

I agree with CLOWNKNIFE, nice looking Chipokae too. These things can be mean as hell. I've had one embarrass a Texas Cichlid twice its size through aggression.
