when stores say 'Florida spotted gar' they are generally referring to Florida gar.

you are right, Florida gars and spotted gars are two completely different species (although often hard to differentiate between). there are some spotted gars that range into Florida, and hence they would be considered spotted gars from Florida, but that's about it for that terminology.

the fish you have pictured is a Florida gar, Lepisosteus platyrhincus, which is different from the spotted gar, Lepisosteus oculatus. again, great looking specimen!--
