Please ID this Hap

Hard to say. Personally I have never seen them in the hobby, stores or local breeders.
Where did you pick him up?
*Critical question, was he in a tank labeled as "Mixed African Cichlids"?

I got him at an LFS that specializes in Africans. He was in a tank of labeled Haps and Peacocks. She did not have an ID on this fish though. She said it came in mixed with another shipment.

I had a breeding group of these (then called Hap johnstoni), back in the early 70's. I was told they frequent sandy shores with Vallisenaria beds, so their stripes help them blend in with the plants. My biggest male got to be about 8 inches. Great fish not often seen, not overly aggressive!
