I have had several scombs that got ick and died with in a month or 2 and i have had this fish for a month and a half and it has a whole different attitude and is a very peaceful and shy fish. that is what lead me to think it may be a H.tat. I moved it to the feeder tank because after 3 weeks in the big tank i still had not seen him eat anything. I tried with lights on and off. I am not very good at IDing thses so please help me out. i will let you know a few things that you can not see in the pics. This fish has the black freckles on the lower jaw and he does not stand on his head like the scombs all did.

It's a nice sized Tat but how much was it and what'd they sell it as ? Just as Vamptrev told me when I had just gotten mine you just have to leave him alone and let him settle in at his own pace and if there is nothing visibly wrong with him and your water is clean then he will come around and begin to feed when he is hungry enough.I have had mine going on three months now and in the early days I thought that there was something wrong with him but now he eats well,he's no cruiser but the other fish namely the atf are not allowed in his area.

i think you should be able to fnd them easily.
malaysia has some nice fish.
or you can come over to singapore to buy some.:grinno:

its about 6-7 inches now and i bought it for 30$ when it was 5-6''. I got it at the same lfs that I had been getting all my scombs from, that i could never get to live. And they were selling the scombs and these guys as vampire tetra's. I went in one day to get another scomb and seen these which were bigger and decided to give it a try so i purchased 1 out of 4 that they had just to see if I could get it to live. If I would have known that it was a red tail i would have bought all 4. And now that I have gotten it positively ID'ed as a H tat. the lfs doesn't have any and does not know if they will get anymore:nilly::confused::confused:

I got a little update after a month and a half I finally seen him eat. He showed no signs of being interested in the rosey that was swimming next to him for about the first minute or 2 and then he nabbed it. I put more in the tank and he did show interest just not enough to get them. So i think this fish might finaly work out after all the trouble with those scombs.

tats are bad asses i have 2 scombs and never lost one. Note: ive never in my whole life lost any payaras thank god. i think the trick is to have extra filteration and a greater current. keep temp at 83 and and rocks so they can rest when not fighting the current. add food 1's a day and thats how i roll.

^^^ Just wait........ Hate to say it but I hope it happens sooner than later....It sucks to invest a bunch of time and effort into a fish then have it just up and die on you for no reason.....such a kick in the ballz.
