I noticed that too. There are no other hints, though, of carpintis. I guess it could have been a cross a couple generations back. That would make sense. Maybe the carpintis was the female at some point, so it shows more cyanno.

So far, this makes the most sense to me. Color resembles mostly H. cyanoguttatus, but some of the pearls are large and shaped irregularly, hinting H. carpintis. Body is very bulky as well, unlike most texas.

Either way, the fish is a male, and very nice looking.

Looks like cyano, the "True" Texas cichlid. I kept several Texas cichlids back in the late 80's and all my males developed a big hump. Carpintas gets a bigger hump than cyano, but the hump in the pic, is not what I would call Carpintas "big'. carpintas also have much bigger spots which are blotchier, and the Texas are smaller and rounder like "pearls", hence the "Pearl Cichlid" name. The Carpintas is sometimes called the Green Texas, since it is very closely related and looks somewhat similar, but has a greenish background color. Juat a trade name though, anyone can make up a name, like Tamaulipas Cichlid for the Carpintas, since that is the state where they mostly are found in Mexico. As far as body shape...in many cases when the hump grows in CA cichlids, even though the hump is mostly filled with water, there is some stress on the fish, that causes a curved back look to it. And I definatly do NOT see any carpintas influence in the fish from the link you posted. But who knows, anything is possible. I once bought a cheap grade "F" Flower horn, that I swore was a Trimac.

Hello, it´s not cyano, later I put photos of cyano, its diferent to this fish, it´s carpinte teporatus!, there is a lot of variety of carpinte, riverino, of mountain, carpinte carpinte, teporatus...., and this its teporatus. If anybody have seen cyanoguttatus, they know it isn´t a cyano , bye

See the difference between the two species, yours it´s carpinte 100%

im with toni on this one; that fish is not a pure cyano or carpintis as we are used to seeing. but toni, you said the teporatus is a variety between the cyano and carpintis...unless im misunderstanding what you mean by "variety", wouldnt this make it a hybrid?

Hello, there are a lot of varietys, for example the carpinte escondido, this is diferent of carpinte de montaña, or capinte riverino, all are carpinte but they are differents!, cyanoguttatus its small that this variety of carpinte and have other coloration and form of carpinte.
All species that we have can be hibrids, if I take it direct from river, it can be too hibrid.
Teporatus its de variety more similar that carpinte variety that exist, it have the same coloration of cyanoguttatus, but it have other morfology, its mor large, the face form its diferent and the form and situation of points its diferent too.

i see, thanks. i did a google search on this teporatus but i couldnt find much...
