Please identify the fish

Update: the hogchoker just fed. I put some blackworms in a coconut shell in the tank. It immersed itself in the worms and fed. What an incredible fish. The way it moves and feeds is a treat to watch. The cichlids watched it from a distance and seemed to avoid it.

Good to hear, hope he makes it! I’ve always wanted one of these but never had the proper setup.

A nice 30 gallon brackish setup with some mollies and a figure 8 would be sweet.

Any chance that it could be a freshwater specie and might live its whole life in a freshwater tank?

Also, forgot to mention, in the pet market it was darkish brown in color. In my fish tank, it has changed to golden. Kind of camouflage I guess?

Sounds like camo.
It could be a freshwater species. I’m not entirely sure how to tell the difference, I may be able to try if you post another pic from the top.
Main thing I’ve read is that if it costed over 20 it was freshwater and if it was only 5 it was a hog choker.
