Please learn from my mistake!

I used to work in a finfish hatchery and after a bad day my boss, a PhD in Ichthiology and expert researcher gave me some advice I will pass on to you.

looking at our failed Red Snapper hatch with 100% mortality he shrugged and said "its a result"

Thats really what it is, even for you dead fish means what you tried did not work, and try something else (smaller mesh on your netting?) I would measure the temperatures in that pond over the course of a day, big temperature fluctuations can make fish uncomfortable and encourage them to jump.

its easy to take setbacks personally, but don't, its just an oppurtunity to learn something.

its all good. just get a smaller opening net

Things like this happen to us fish keepers all the time.. Its about trial and error and learning from our mistakes.

Good luck and keep your head up !

After the first few died shouldn't you have taken some action and done something?

this is how it works my friend.. whenever you burn for anything you are constantly tested! not like in (an act of whatever) but you are still tested. you struggle to achieve something, whenever you struggle there is a risk of not succeding! that is what makes succeding worth something! I lost my pride and joy 17" and 10" dat with over 50 percent of my stock (that is not something you come by easy in sweden) and haven't been able to keep dats that are my favourite fish by far since. first now I've been able to keep them without being reminded.

you accept your responsibility in these losses, you fix the problem and you move on! would you really spend thousands of dollars and hours changing water, getting up in the middle of the night when you work the next day to check up on your sick eel to give up the hobby? get your sheet sorted out, have no bad concience and move on with the hobby. buy a fish you have been longing to keep and you will get back some of the motivation!

With the fish jumping... IMHO... it seems your water quality is not optimal for the fish. Once, one of my koi jumped out of the pond... was able to save the koi in time. As it turned out, my pumps was out... and not providing good circulation and filtration for the pond.
