Please rate my JD (pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I remeasured him and I'd say he's around 6inches. He's smaller than the rest for the reason that he doesnt go to the top for food. Therefore will only eat sinking pellets. My JD will eat Massivore pellets but will only mouth and spit out the hikari sinking pellets that I put in. If it wasnt for the cost of the Massivore pellets I'd keep feeding him those.

I'm hoping he matures to a nice looking pearly JD.. I guess I'll just keep waiting.

I would be a little worried about that growth rate. Could be that you got a runt that will take a while to grow and color up or it might never. My female jack was around 7 inches in a year and I bought it a maybe 1inch. What are you feeding it? From the pictures it looks like a healthy young male that just hasn't matured yet. I think if you keep it's tank clean and feed it a lot of protein it will still turn out good.

6 inches isn't bad at all. If he was under five it would definately be on the small side. If you can feed frozen krill or store bought shrimp a couple times a week I think you will really start seeing some growth. JD's in tanks with other aggessive eaters tend to not get as much, but mine will come out and fight for krill. In a inch or 2 it should start coloring up.

convict breeder that fish is too big for your 29.

just my opinion.....the pearls dont really align too well. Maybe it was the pic? The pearls look smaller too. There are some I have seen that at this age and size, they are fully pearled. The red face looks nice though. I had one that looked just like this one. At 9 inches, it didnt look any better than at 6 inches. I suggest if you want a larger pearled JD, find a breeder of JD's that breeds for this trait or continue looking around at your petstores. The larger pearled JD's should be more noticable at a young age. I have not been able to find one at the local petsmart or petco yet.

great looking JD but i prefer the ones with darker colors
