please rate my setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Clean the glass completely, at least the front, add plants, take out the budah head(very tacky), fill water to the top. That would help make it look better. This has got to be the most filthiest, ugliest set up I've ever seen.

I rate it -10.
But pimp it out and that can change reall easy. Have fun.

Man, you got a lot of cleaning.. you cant even see the fish.. i give it a 1 sorry..

Gravel looks dirty, the petco decorations dont look good..

Get some drift wood, some river rocks and some sand or light substrate..

what is a birch, bichir? If its the needle nose I am thinking of in there, thats not good, could get stressed easy with JD and BP, hit glass, and break spine. How big are your fish, and what is your filteraton, as it looks dirty, no offense. As far as how the tank looks, that is personal choice, so it's up to you, if you like it fine. However, personally I'd choose even bare bottom over that gravel if forced to make that choice, and if having to keep the head in there, would do a more natural substrate, such as river rocks or sand. But hey, that is what your here for to learn and improve your fish's life and tank, so good luck to you.
I am not going to rate it currently, because there are so many simple steps you could do to make it look much better, and reguardless if you change the setup or not, the algae still needs to go.

when i got it said donsoure eel. so i'm guessing a bichir? as for the needle fish here info on it http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/predatory/needlefish.php
as for the filter i have 1 millennium 3000 running. and one not runing. (should i turn it on) when i put them both on there is a strong current. maybe too strong for the needlefish. as for the alge. yes it was a problem. but got a pleco and within a day it was fixed. now the pleco is hiding in the coliseum and not doing it's job. any reason for that.

as for the fish. what do you think will do ok together. remember i have the 45gal long tank also. alot cleaner. i mean alot cleaner.

i'm starting to wonder if the tank or the filters could be the problem with the alge. we did resuce 2 blood cichild about 1 1/2 years in it. she didn't even take care of them. you couldn't see the fish and the tank was alot more dirty then it is now.

updated pic coming soon

as for the filter i have 1 millennium 3000 running. and one not runing. (should i turn it on) when i put them both on there is a strong current. maybe too strong for the needlefish. Personally I would get rid of the needle fish, turn on the other filter, and if there was a problem with too much current, put more media in it to slow it down as for the alge. yes it was a problem. but got a pleco and within a day it was fixed. now the pleco is hiding in the coliseum and not doing it's job. any reason for that. Yes, I am guessing you have a common pleco, huge misconception that they just eat algae, that won't give them enough food in thier diet. Commons tend to eat algae more when smaller, and less when larger as well, get massive too, can easily outgrow that tank

as for the fish. what do you think will do ok together. Aggression of individual fish, requirements of each, and size are all factors, I can't just give you a straight answer remember i have the 45gal long tank also. alot cleaner. i mean alot cleaner. Did not know you had the 45 long, and what are the sizes of your fish.

i'm starting to wonder if the tank or the filters could be the problem with the alge. Is the tank by direct sunlight? If so that is your problem we did resuce 2 blood cichild about 1 1/2 years in it. she didn't even take care of them. you couldn't see the fish and the tank was alot more dirty then it is now.

updated pic coming soon Ok, looking forward to it
Hey, my answers are in red, hope it helps

never knew the common pleco didn't eat alge when they get older alot. will have to look into that. as for the fish(these are only guesses)
jd=3"-4"
bp=4"-5"
pleco=good 6 or so maybe 7 it's big
needlenose=5"-6"
bichir=6"

i do have the 45 long tank also. so far only the bichir is in there. can move around as needed.
as for the other filter i can turn it on but too much water flowing down the needle. i can cover the top with plants but not sure if that will help the water flow problem

Another thing that would help would be to only keep a thin layer of substrant, in the pic there looks to be 3 to 4 inches worth. The problem with that is that the poop and food particles get to the bottom and sit there for bacteria and crap to grow. I think its recommemd to have less than a half inch You probably should a least once a week in my opinion vaccum the gravel and at least twice a week do a 75% water change.

Goodluck with the fishes and tank maintances!

You say you were cleaning it earlier.. can we see a clean picture?
