personally, I would try to get a 40Breeder (IF affordable) because the footprint is more comfortable if Lg fish must be in there very long and you say the fish has a bad case. you don't have to fill the water to the top, so saving on meds is still doable.
but I agree, bottom line is get what's possible. Look at craigslist etc for used tank, you might get lucky. get a reliable filter. I'm skeptical of used heaters from unknown sellers. you want the treatment period to be safe.
