I'm sorry to hear that man :(. Hopefully though your experience will somehow shed some light on what happened, and why so many gulpers drop dead. Keep an eye on the others. they're not out of the woods yet

Yeah I will be keeping a close eye on them. Sometimes stuff like this gets discouraging. Between this and all my 15 of my thin bar datnoids dying (Friends kid put gummi worms and skittles in the tank) I think I might cut back. I spend alot of money and it seems like it's a waste of money.

I also think there should be a sticky thread about buying gulpers. What can happen if they get sick. There isn't much information out there except here and the other website they will not let me mention here. (Somebody please put together a sticky about this before people keep buying not know what they are getting into)

Well with that said, I hope the other two make it and maybe if they pull through this I will get three more, but for now it looks like no more new fish for me. Maybe I will go back to guns and cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry to hear the news, a sticky should be put together for these fish, I agree, seems people are having lots of problems with these guys, including myself, by looking at your pics, it seems as if its not a film, but a loss in skin pigmentation, does this sound correct? I noticed my fish exhibted this lack of pigmentation when I got them out of there shipping pakage, but figured this was just due to the fish being in a dark box for three long days, grrr, which for me resulted in columnaris. color returned to my gulpers after a few hours of acclimating them to fresh water and then introduced them to there home, to bad to hear that a few peoples fish have just mysteriously lost color and died shortly after, hopefully someone will shed some light on this, and I hope this is not a sign of things to come, for now I plan to do a little research and talk to a few catfish experts, if I have any findings, or any good info I will be sure to post it

well here's an attempt to maybe get to the bottom of this, as a friend of mine lost a tiger shovelnose in what seems to be in the same fashion, I guess it all started when his goldfish population in his feeder tank dissapeared in a matter of a few days, then his TSN got sick, symptoms included loses of color, and trouble swimming, a day later he woke up to a dead 18 inch fish, anyways he said he did lots of research and the the only thing he could come up with is what is commonly known as neon tetra disease, as goldfish are susceptible to it and probaly spread to his TSN through feeding, he strongly recommended me to read the article I have posted here below, hope this can be of help.............................................................. http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2007/02/neon-tetra-disease.html

Im thinking it might be the feeder goldfish. they carry diseases. stay alway from live foods.

i never used live foods, and mine died the same way

Ouch.. I thought about gulpers but I didn't want to spend the money- Especially with the lack of info out there- Sorry to hear that man

PS: Thin bars!! no!

I used Prazipro on the remaining gulpers that I have left and it WORKED!!!. After 24 hrs they were not breathing hard anymore and in 36 hours they were eating again......I guess they had some sort of parasites in their gills.
