Please tell me about this Flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
some jk will fade young while others will fade lade later on. Fish are like people in that some are early and some are late blomers. Water and stress has a lot to do with how fast the fish will fade too.

My jk did not completely fade till around 10.5-11".

I no longer have this fish. I had him about six years ago and I raised him since he was around 3".

So, if you don't mind. What is the best way to promote healthy growth and progression in this fish? Someone mentioned water quality, which is always important. Is there anything else special I should know about caring for this fish. I know there's a search key, and I'll look around a bit, but I figure as long as we're on the topic, fill me in.

He seems to be adjusting fairly well, he's not gasping anymore, and he does seem to be eating.

Water quality #1, Good food, I personaly use a variety of pellet foods, frozen brine, frozen Krill, frozen Bloodworms ocasionally, live crickets, live mill worms, But Never, Never live feeder fish, they carry too many parasites, internal and external, also invest in good lighting, if you don,t already have, this will help bring out the fish's color as well.

Oh BTW put a colorfull background on your tank, I just realized you don't have one, it is not neccessary for faded FH, but I believe it helps them to fade while they are in the fading process.

Agreed. Also try using brightly colored gravel. Isolate the fish as well to avoid any possible fighting or "cross contamination". That fish you just got looks sick and half dead. I know you said it was a rescue so I would urge you to separate it for a while. Hope he cleans up and fades all the way for you. Could end up being a great looking fish. Best advice was said earlier. Clean water and varied diet. GL bro!

Some updated shots now about a month later, he has recently come down with a case of ich and is being treated so pardon the small tank, he's loving his new 125 the rest of the time.
