Its no big deal. I don't know, it just always annoyed me when I would have to spend a few minutes looking at something trying to figure out what all the code words and acronyms meant, so I just never did it myself. I'm not one of the kids you would see spending 58 minutes out of every hour (like my 14 year old sister) on my phone, but I do text fairly often. Nobody has actually ever mentioned why I don't do the whole text-talk thing, so they must not notice the lack of emotion in my messages.

I spent a ton of my childhood camping and fishing and doing that type of thing, and I was never into the whole social network thing either. I would do anything to be outside instead of in front of a computer. When my friends were commenting on each others facebooks, and I was at the nearest body of water fishing. I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who has never had a facebook, myspace, ect. but I never had either, and never will.

That kind of stuff just isn't for me. :)

I never had a facebook on my own accord if that counts for something,.. my girlfriend made me one, but I only use it for group meetings for college....

as for emoticons i only use them to show whether i'm joking and stuff like that, stuff that can sometimes be lost in translation when in writing... (i'm also 19 until august)

The title of this thread really makes me feel old--my stepdaughter turns 40 in August. I'm one of the grande dames of MFK.....62-yr-old, 5-yr breast cancer survivor who works hard and plays even harder. My fish and wake surfing are my passions. I'm on Facebook every day to stay connected with friends and family....classmates from 44 years ago, fellow English teachers in Japan 41 years ago (through Facebook, we had a reunion in Atlanta last summer), dental school classmates from 1982. I keep my parents informed about what their grandchildren are doing. I don't post everything I do every 30 seconds. I don't play games....who needs Fishville, or whatever, when you have the real thing! I joined MFK and 4 other fish forums to learn about fishkeeping. I stick around out of habit, and because it's entertaining and sometimes informative/educational. There are certain fishkeepers on this site who I greatly admire. I'm an example that one is never too old to learn.

I'm 40+ and feel kinda old on here too! But on another thread, can't remember which one, found out that quite a few of the really 'serious' sounding scuffs and remarks were actually done by ppl under 25. It surprised a few of us, who took it for granted, because of the demeanor of these guys, thought they were a lot older! They (the younger guys), were told by someone else (not me), to 'lighten up' a little. So I guess it's all in the way things are said or how they're taken. Maybe some of the MTVism is done by older ppl that are trying to 'sound' younger ? ?
get out hit the gymn , change your companion if the flame has died , age is really relative when certain conditions are met ,who wants to be part of the mtv era when you can be at home full time if you wish w/your hobby and enough health and money to see you thru the next 70 years ,lol, i surely hated that early in the morning routine to be at work, now its all play play play,it takes time to live out one's life and only then you ll realize what really matters ,youth do not have that right let's hear it for the old hobbyists ,Remember the days when you would have killed to get that certain fish in your tank, then noticed after a week or two that it was all a big mistake ,well life is so much easier after having done that and been there do not worry about being 40 soon u'll be 50 and and , I might be a bit off the original topic but i know that some of you will certainly get my nonsense,
