Catfish Cice has gotten some HUGE updates recently

There’s no small plecos that can fit in the 29 with him? What about the L236?

edit: in the future I plan on feeding cucumbers and algae pellets

Their are definitely some small pleco's that could go with him.

I would personally go with just different color morphs of the bristlenose personally. There are so many.Makes feeding and perimeters easy. Not to mention you get to see them!

If you start going multiple species you will likely lock yourself into one temp thats warm for the bristlenose and a bit cooler for the fancier species. Different diets become a problem as well bristlsnose are primarily veggie based where as you have wood eaters and more carnivorous diets and constipation issues arise as they eat each others foods.

Ancistrus get some good size to them and create a good amount of poop. A single full sized ancistrus won't leave much room bio-load wise for other plecos in a 29 gallon. Plus, aggression between plecos is pretty common especially within tight quarters. If you are willing to buy an L236, which go for hundreds of dollars, why not spend a fraction of that on a bigger tank? A 29 is really pushing it for a pleco community tank.

My 29 gal community, is a mated pair of angles, 3 bristle nose longfins, 13 rummies, 3 amanos, and a bamboo shrimp. This tank needs two 50% changes a week to stay around 20ppm.

These 3 bristlenose are on the small side as well. If they were swapped with 3 of my big guys I'd be changing water likely daily without heavy planting/duckweed.

Right, 3 large bristlenose alone would create enough waste to make daily water changes necessary in such a small tank. Paired with the eventual large size of angelfish, I would say your tank will be quite cramped when the fish are full sized, not really a setup that will be sustainable for years to come. You may be aware of this, and sure, right now while your fish are young it's probably fine. But to be on the safer side, when giving advice to newer aquarists, IMO it's better to recommend things that will be sustainable long term, with the amount of maintenance most people are willing to do (one, maybe two WC's a week). Which is why I am suggesting that the 29 will be too small for the type of setup the OP wants.

You must have money to burn.

I keep and breed some of the rare B&W Hypancistrus. Think zebra, L236, L236 super white, L173. As adults these reach a TL of from about 4 to 6 inches.

Pricing for these fish :
L236 about $50 per inch
zebras about $100 per inch.
L173 about $175 per inch
L236 sw about $300 per inch.

It matters from whom you purchase these fish.
236 is a highly variable fish and likely not a species. This is a caveat emptor (buyer beware) fish.
Zebras are easy, almost anybody can ID them.
L173 is highy variable, it morphs as it ages. Not real common and easy to get taken buying if you are not experienced.
Super white 236 are the big thing now and they can cost an arm and a leg. It matter whose line it is. There are amazing ones and not so nice ones.

There are more nice looking B&W ones and plenty of others. But size matters. Pleco males are territorial. They need area more than volume. If you want to keep a variety of plecos in one tank, you will need a bigger footprint than a 29. You will also need some wood, some rock work and some caves. By wood I mean wood under/in which plecos can hide.

Absolutely true. I just wanted to give and example of what a "stocked" tank looks like and the slave that I have become to it. When I say two changes every week I mean it. As mountain biking begins to take the majority of my time in the summer I had missed a change and the tank quickly reached 40+ppm resulting in my first round of HITH with these Angels. Usually the thought of moving that much water for newer people helps them realize what they are in for long term.

agreed that just 1 male bn in a 29 is the way to go. theres 3-4 males in mine(growouts) and they bicker constantly. they are also less than 2 inches atm so i fully expect to have to seperate them based off aggression alone.(they got moved in with my goldfish)20200831_132601.jpg
tanks bare bottom and ends up getting all algae encrusted decor that im not using in other tanks so the bottom is piled with wood and river rocks
