Pleco Aggression! how to prevent

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If me, I would get another tank; L24 and L25 (and L273) are too valuable/expensive to loose to interspecific fighting.
Someone else on this forum used to have L114 (similar to L600) and L14; though the L14 started out bigger, as the L114 got bigger, it terrorized the L14. Would hate to see your L600 kill off the L24 or L25 when it (L600) got bigger.

I thought panaque can eat those foods as long as they get zuchinni and waffers too? a mixed diet. Thanks ill add more hiding spots and see what happens before moving them around. They seem okay today.

They can occasionally eat those foods like once a week but feeding them those foods regularly is not a good thing

Yea i read that they are quite aggressive. I also have a small l114 but he is nice at the moment living with l14, l66, l172a golden vampire, l91. I think all plecos are valuable these days. Even if they cost only 30$! thats still money for a 2 to 3 in fish. Yea i really like my l24 and l25. right now everyone seems to be getting along. Just had a bad few days.

My channel cat and pleco use to fight like crazy lol they were more aggressive then all my cichlids. They both went back to the lfs

I have a l24 that cause a lot of problem for my other plecos. He not shy and like to wonder the whole tank getting into every thing searching for food causing fight and bullying. I have plenty of hiding place but he still wonder around. Some pleco are not shy at all, combine that and agressive and you have problems

Nine big plecs in a 72x18" footprint is going to lead to aggression, IMO the best thing you could do is get a bigger tank (and with a better footprint:volume ratio if you're specifically keeping plecos). Other than that you can try break up lines of sight, create territories, make sure there is plenty of cover etc etc, but at the end of the day more space is what they really need.

They are getting along now. If problems happen again i will move fish around. i do have 15 other tanks =). Gl on our 2000l tank build. It will be nice when completed!

Thanks, I need to hurry up and sort it out, been procrastinating for far too long now!
