Pleco and plywood tanks.

Why is it a bad mix?

Have you ever raised channel catfish and peacock bass? Young channels are not aggressive at all. I have had them for the last couple years. I have had over 18 in my tanks over the last 3 years. The only problems with channels is keeping them with mbuna. They are just fine with CA/SA/NA fish.

Peacock bass exhibit mostly conspecific aggression. People keep plecos with mbuna and other aggressive CA/SA cichlids.

Why is it a bad mix?

If it is just the plywood tank then please just say it is the plywood tank. The mix should be fine if the pleco is large enough.

Large plecos are agressive and territorial to other bottom dwellers such as your cat. Your cat if the other way would make an easy meal of a lot of species... There aren't that many 30" plecos, your more likely to get a 2ft adult max. If you go for larger, they'll either be agressive, or a large Panaque... wood eater (some can also be a bit agressive).

It is a bad mix because the fish you keep with not mix well with large plecos. Finding a pleco large enough in the first place will be difficult, and expensive. Then, as davo said, you will run into aggression problems, likely problems with the tank, and possibly someone getting eaten/killed. The one getting eaten may or may not be the pleco, it actually could be the other way around, and the pleco will attack, and kill your other fish, while slowly eating them. Either way... bad mix.

Thanks for clearing that up. Just saying it is a bad mix without a reason why doesn't really answer a question. So the Plec could possibly be the aggressive one, which makes it a bad mix. Also, the larger the plec species the more likely it will eat through the epoxy.
