OK. This is one thing thAT I have never attempted. 500 gallon tank. Nothing in it but 5 plecos each 8-12 inches. Anyone ever bred Pleco? What do I need to know/do? Any and all tips are welcome. If anyone actually knows?! Lol tank set up. Prep EVERYTHING LOL!

From what I understand common plecos havnt been bred in aquariums. In ponds they have just not in tanks. Why not try some bristlenose plecos? Super easy to breed and dont get too large.

Man, wish i have 500gal for breeding my L600's! that would be awesome.. I agree start with Bristlenose but boy a 500gal would be way big for BN.

That's what I thought too- the commons need walls of mud to tunnel in to to lay the eggs.

It sounds like a fantastic waste of a 500 gallon tank. Commons are bred on Florida farms for pennies each. If you'd like to try your hand at breeding, I would agree with the comments above, start with some of the easier ancistrus species and work your way up. A 30 or 40 gallon long would suffice for such a project. Use the 500 gal. for something cool!

x2

ancistrus would be a great place to start, in addition a 500 gallon will be a nightmare trying to pull fry from. Smaller tanks are easier in the long run.

500 gallon pleco tank sounds awesome to me. But i would forget the bristle noses bc u can do that in a 30 gallon. Add a few groups of some more exotic plecos and wait a while. You could add all sorts of cool community fish in that tank. Also pick a few types u like and read up onthem on planet catish. Plecos rock
