hmmm... a semi-old thread.

I feel I need to address something here.

Plecos get a bum rap about the sucking thing. I've kept plecos(commons mainly) for over 20 years and have never had one suck the slime on any other fish I've kept.

What causes them to do it is when they are underfed, plecos are fish and deserve to be fed as such. Not left to clean the tank.
What have been your common Plecos tankmates?

I've had an orange goldfish turn brown and a different one turned white.

I had a goldfish that was orange, turned white, then had orange on the top and white on the bottom, then it went vice-versa. He was one weird goldfish.

Lot's of fish; Cories, goldfish, koi, cichlids(too many to list), sharks(bala,black-red tail, black), loaches(clowns, weather), misc catfish(bullheads, jaguar, niger, raphaels), rainbow fish, danios, tetras, striped headstander, barbs... I'm sure there is more.

I have an 8 year pleco right now that has NOT ever been without a goldfish in his tank.

You could be right maybe the Plecos arent being fed enough....I asked my friend how much he fed his and he said that he ate leftovers from the Koi.....but that still dosent change the fact that they have been known to attack and kill tankmates; you might be able to keep a great white shark in with a tuna if you feed him enough! What if someone goes on vacation?

The moral to my story is feed the pleco under normal conditions...don't starve them. I've had bala sharks eat fry(not theirs), does they make them get labeled as killer fish as the pleco gets labeled?

I bet its possible. My biggest pleco is the most aggressive fish in my pond right now. Beats up my poor rtc even though he's smaller.
