Pleco for a 20g?

I missed the temp, scratch otos off the list, they need high 70s low 80s. Hillstreams are a coldwater species though, so the tank temp is perfect.

I would personally go for a bristlenose pleco. I have one in my 20 gallon and it is doing great. It eats so much algae I can't even see any.

Do you want the pleco to clean up, then a bristlenose pleco will be the best choice. Otos or rubberlip could also work.
Just saw the temp, otos wouldn’t work unless the temp is higher. I kept some fish in temperature just a few degrees than it’s supposed to be, so I think the other choices could still work.

I don’t think there are many plecos that will go well with 60’s temperatures. If I were you I would add a heater, this will open up many more options. Even if you only hea the water to 72.

sure bn plecos can tolerate cooler water but they certainly won’t thrive.

now if you can bring your temperature up into the 70’s these plecos should work
