What is a good pleco for this tank size(s)? I don't want something that grows massive but It can't be too delicate. I want to house whatever I get with a central american cichlid like a jack dempsy or green terror. Any suggestions?

Rhino pleco they max out at about 10 inches or maybe a 3 beacon pleco, max out at about the same. 3 beacon is L091

Yeah and what's with the numbers associated with plecos? Don't they have scientific names?

I will look at rhinos.

What's massive? I would call anything over a foot "massive" (but then again, this is "monsterfishkeepers.") Using my definition of massive, what about:

L007-Galaxy Pleco: 10 inches SL
L114- Leopard Cactus Pleco: 10 inches SL
L264- Sultan Pleco: 6 inches SL (3+ of these as they are supposedly gregarious)

These all are "carnivorous "plecos with teeth, so I think they could hold there own with these chiclids. (Though they are carnivorous, some vegetable/fiber in their diet may help prevent bloating)

Wow alot to take in at once. You will have to bare with me becuse Im not really at all familar with plecos. I like the plecos you mentioned Linus_cello but they might be hard to find in a LFS. I think the most common out of the three would be the leopard cactus pleco and they like the water quite soft. Softer than I can provide. I will definatly keep an eye on them though. I read the adonis get waaay to big for my size tank. Apparently rhinos grow to big to huh. Im looking for fish one might find at a LFS. To help a little I found some plecos that might work. My knowledge again is limited so bare with me.

spotted pleco(Hypostomus punctatus )
Leopard Cactus Pleco(Pseudacanthicus leopardus)
mango pleco(L47)

Still don't get the numbers? I found out alot of these plecos are really pricey.

I think Mr. Pleco was joking

:D sorry I guese kinda killed it.

I looked at Hypostomus plecostomus which is just the common pleco that I know gets bigger than 12in. Im really having trouble with this. There's seems to be alot of conflicting information

The L is short for the family name Loricariidae that all plecos belong to. In a nutshell, plecos are found and identified by collectors faster than scientists can get them officially described and properly named (no one is funding taxonomic studies any more, but that is a whole other issue). So inorder to get around that, some well meaning folks at an aquarium magazine published by DATZ (Die Aquarien und Terrarienzeitschrift) came up with a number system. All plecos got an "L number". When the fish is properly described and named the "L number" gets retired. Its not a perfect system... there are many species that are represented by several L numbers and likewise there are several L numbers that have been discovered to be assigned to multiple species.

Likewise cories are not getting assigned "c numbers"
