pleco for a 55-90?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The great thing about L-204s is that most are from Peru, so they aren't covered by the Brazil ban, and you should be able to get some from a LFS more easily, then say a brazillian pleco (and perhaps cheaper). I've seen them on aquabid for about $70 for 3. I think the person I got my L-204s may still have some for sale (in VA).

Be sure to get lots of bogwood/driftwood for them, since they are primarily wood eaters.

:D sorry I guese kinda killed it.

I looked at Hypostomus plecostomus which is just the common pleco that I know gets bigger than 12in. Im really having trouble with this. There's seems to be alot of conflicting information
What makes it confusing is there are three 'common' plecos.

The one I mentioned is the smallest at 12 inches... the other 2 can reach 2 feet.

Thanks guys for the clear up on the "L numbers" and for bearing with me. Okay so the common Warbog, you were tlking about I think would be good because they don't get too big and they will probably be pretty cheap and easy to find. Apparently the species your referring too has spots on the abdomen so I will have to look for that. I also think L024 will work because of thier size and the fact they seem really low maintenece. But im worried on how eay they will be to find and the price. Don't really want to spend 50 bucks on a pleco. I also found and like L014 or sunshine plecos. they seem small enough and maybe not too rare but again the price. Any comments on these?

Oh and is it true that plecos take years to rah adult hood? Are all of them really slow growers?

L-14, or Goldie, will get almost 12 inches, so it may be too big for your tank.

They are also relatively expensive. You're lucky if you find them for about $40. The cheapest one on aquabid is $50 (a large one is for sale at $125)

Good luck finding an L24. They are in high demand as they are on the Brazil banned list. If you ever see one for sale, it will easily be $75, if not over $100.

Jesse I had no idea plecos were so pricey. The commons will certainly not cost that much. I really like rhinos. They are affordable and look good but alast they get to big.

My Hypostomus passed the 12" and can be pretty territorial to my 8" Mustang cactus pleco.

They're in a 180Gl tank and I wouldn't keep a full sized hypostomus in a smaller tank. The pseudas are slower growing and the L65 i have is actually one of the Pseudas that stop at app. 8".

just my personal opinion.

I don't want anybody cramped in my tank. Maybe I should just stick to bristlenose.

I got a 90Gl with smaller plecos.
Works fine and getting some smaller ones to grow out will take many years.
