PLECO HUNT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
+1 Same with the snakeheads.plecos are no different. If it is invasive species its gotta go.

It sucks, I don't think anyone here likes seeing any fish get killed for being invasive (it's not like they asked to be dumped in a pond) but that's just how it is. Really goes to show how important it is to never "dump" a fish.

Perhaps a better analogy would be feral domestic cats in Austraillia, if anyone is familiar with that whole mess. Pretty sure no one likes seeing cute little kittens murdered, but they're really affecting native species through their hunting and reproductive rates.

Dude, these are a nuisance invasive species living unwanted in someone's pond in the "wild." Ecology 101.

Its almost funny, the great lakes are about to be destroyed by asian carp and snakeheads are making their way up the east coast and we get a joker here who wants to save the plecos :screwy:

Maybe they are not a rare species. just that by there size is what makes them in high demand

Every LFS gets big common plecos people don't want anymore (if they're even willing to take them), very few people actually want them at adult size. They produce a ton of waste and often destroy tank decor. Next to oscars, they're probably the most commonly seen big fish brought in and they do not move quickly at all.

If you really want to help fish in this hobby, start a breeding program for fish that are facing threats in their natural habitat.
