Pleco ID .. common or not?

There is one at my LFS that is over 28 inches and has the same pattern!

Look like a common to me.. a nice one that is.

it looks to be either Pterygoplichthys pardalis or Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus, we would need a picture of the stomach to be sure. p. pardalis has a spotted pattern and p. disjunctivus has a vermiculated pattern.
