Hi folks! Hope everyone is well.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether or not this pleco is a female bristlenose.
I recently rehomed 3 hefty plecos (10-14”, common, hi fin leo, choco) from two tanks, and want to get a smaller species.
The gal I’m looking to “adopt” from said her pleco was sold to her as a BNP, and she hasn’t grown much, if any, in the 7+ months she’s had her.

pics aren’t great, but worth a shot.

I also have another smaller pleco that has not grown much since I acquired it 6 months ago (I will try to post pics later)

Thanks!

Here is the other one I currently own, who’s species I’m not sure of (it came with a tank and the previous owners didn’t know much about fish)

only a ventral view... cheeky beezy slipped out of the net when I tried to take it out to put in a plastic bin for photos.
Plecos are sooo temperamental ?

I’ll try to recapture it and take photos of different angles, best I got for now 866C9A1B-6E95-4770-B468-76787D3AF847.jpegB5CA848A-6450-4D6E-8E53-2F55E6967F4D.jpeg

Looks like my female BNPs. By that size the males already have beards.

The first one def looks like a female bristlenose to me. It’s a common problem a lot of people seem to have with bn plecos not growing. There are a few reasons for them to slow growth, not enough food provided, too cool of water temperature, not enough water changes, and over crowding.

there is a dwarf bn pleco as well, I’ve seen them for sale locally. They are said to only grow 4 inches. I’m not sure how much I believe this as I have not purchased and raised a dwarf bn. Nor have I heard of them before I seen them for sale. But might be something to look into.

As for the second pleco, with only a belly shot it’s very difficult to say what kind it is. Could be a leopard sailfin or common...there are not too many with bellies with patterns
