I agree. Sometimes I wonder if L-Numbers are accurate at LFS.

My answer is no. My LFS always is getting in plecos under the correct L number... most of the time i see the wrong ones. Suppliers aren't always going to comb the fish to make sure they are sending the right one. In fact I just had 4 L200 Green Phantoms ordered for me, and 1 was an L128, Blue Phantom. I can't count the number of times I've seen veiled Temminki plecs as Butterfly L046... anyone that has some experience with plecs knows that a green veiled bristlenose is a far shot from the ZEBRA L046. In short, most of the time the L number given to the fish is right, but not always is the right L number given to the right fish.

I got a pair of white spot plecos recently, very small. One has spots that are more yellow and a yellow band on the tail. I'm hoping he grows up to be a gold nugget! I omly paid 10 bucks.

good luck!!! hope u right would be a steal!!!!

Even if it's not, these little guys are active, so they are worth what I paid anyway.

Ewurm,

I 've put it in another topic, but here it goes again. The L-numbers are a commercial form of identification for members of the family Loricariidae. Each L-# refers to a species, color morph or variant of plecos, be it scientifically described or not. There are some L-#s not even placed in a known Genus! It was created by germans, in the Datz magazine, if I'm not wrong. Each new pleco, whatever it is, get a L-# to make it easier to identify around the world. Some species have 2, even 4 or 5 L-numbers referring to color variants and/or juvie/ adult stages. Some L-#s refer to more than one species. The L-numbers makes the lifes of exporters/ importers/ sellers/ hobbyists a lot easier. Even some scientists use it as a guide.

Best regards.

Daniel.

Thanks for the info Daniel. That explains everything. You are very intelligent, even if you have a scary ET avatar.

Cool, if you get a list let us know. My favorite is C. Juhlii
