So After many trial and errors, I finally got my hands on a good (cheap) pleco. It is a high fin pleco, ones you can find in petsmart. Simple yet satisfying. I've had him since he was less than 3 inches long. Now hes about 8. roughly 6 months. But there seems to be a little problem with him im starting to notice. As he grew his colors changed to a lighter shade. But now I see that hes starting to have more problems. 1 is that his color is starting to fade in certain areas of his body. like a big patch of his left side is a lot lighter shade than the rest of his body. 2 is that he does not eat drift wood. I have yet to see him even suck on it. I started him on just algae growing on the walls and let him scavenge for flakes when he was younger. then to algae wafers. Well now he doesnt even touch the algae wafers. He only goes for the pellets that are meant for the rest of the stock. Any ideas why he has these problems? I feel like i wasted alot of money on drift wood because he doesnt touch it...

Only certain species of plecos eat wood like Panaque sp. The marble sailfin won't need wood too much.
They like to eat meaty/nutritious foods and aren't always looking for algae especially as they grow older.

Get a royal pleco or any of the panaque(really autocorrect panties?!)
They will eat wood.

Sailfin are great...try a piece of zucchini, and enjoy seeing it attack it...this is mine, all 10 inch of it

Its wierd though. I have seen high fin plecos suck on wood, but mine is just stubborn I guess. =_= and my pleco doesnt like vegetables except 1. carrots... I tossed a carrot in there and it just sucks on it for days on ends because of how solid the carrot is. I have tried zuccini too. No luck with that.

well its been about 2 months without me feeding it a vegetable. Its feeding on a mixture of pellets I have made so the fish dont get picky and it saves me money in the end. A mixture of NLS, Hikari, Wardley, API, and Tetrafin. Basically the cheap stuff with the good stuff. but None of my fish likes the NLS. I can tell because they spit that Sh*t out instantly. but in the end it gets cleaned up by my loaches.

Bro, actually you might wanna try small pieces of prawn meat since that they're scavengers. They usually take any thing that is able to reach their mouth.
