Pleco Problem...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They tend to have lighter patches pop up due to stress. This is common with plecos. Also him eating the pellets is good for his diet. The larger they grow, the less algae they eat. They tend to prefer more meaty foods as they grow. If I were you I would cut zuccini in half length wise, and stick pellets down in the zuccini. This is a good way to get them to eat their veggies. But just make sure he is eating enough. And avoid cucumber as it had basicly no nutritional value.

Alright. That sounds like a good idea thanks! But as for the stress issue.. I don't know what the source is. The water is fine. Ph nitrate nitrite ammonia all fine. No one picks on him. All my fish are quite friendly actually. He eats fine and I have plenty of hiding spaces. He refuses to use them though. He enjoys this little corner where he sticks on the wall

Wow yours seems to be picky. I've never had such an experience. Mine eat anything and everything. Pellets meaty foods live bloodworms dead feeders vegetables. I am stumped on urs

You should be fine, I have a high fin and his color changes color all day long depending where he is at in the tank or if he is excited it is feeding time. Had one for nine years before I sold him off and got this one as a replacement and the old one did the same thing and still does with its new owner.

As everyone else has said the color change is perfectly normal. I found mine preferred pellets and would often fight off my cichlids and take their food and I'm talkin flowerhorn's here. My high fin could get pretty nasty. Sounds like your's is doin just fine. Good luck.

Personally my gibbi loves the cubed frozen beef heart that I drop in for my other fish (mostly small cats). He really loves the hikari wafers and zucchini, to be honest I wouldn't worry to much about yours, the sailfins aren't known for being shy when they're hungry so he'll do, and since they prefer meatier diets (at least compared to most other plecos) you could probably get away with what you usually feed the rest of the stock.
