Pleco swimming to the surface of the water and returning to the bottom?

It's normal for them to do it every once in awhile but when they are doing it every 5 minutes for hours at a time, something could be wrong with the water or them.

Well, I changed the water and he seems good to go now. I guess a simple water change is all it takes sometimes ha. Thanks for the info guys

Avoid filling the tank all the way to the top, as plecos come to the surface to gulp air in order to improve their buoyancy. If the tank is completely filled, they may not be able to get the air they desire, or they may bump their snout on the lid and injure themselves.
