Pleco tank scape

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think IMO a gravel bottom with bogwood and rocks is all a pleco needs(maybe a plant pot) for aquascape

Seeing my plecos on sand makes me never want to keep them on bare bottom or tile.

I keep mine in a bare bottom tank. I would like to get a laminate of a picture of sand to place under the tank rather then it being painted. It's easier on the clean up specially with my Panaque's always leaving me piles of saw dust to be cleaned up on a daily basis. I think it's just a matter of personal preference.

Gravel looks good but traps a bit of debris which requires cleaning and with decor like driftwood depending on the amount can become a real pain. Sand looks more natural and looks nice as well plus doesn't trap all that debris but if you got a strong current in your tank it can get blown up into your filters damaging propellers. Bare bottoms are easier to clean with there being no where to get debris trapped in and with some current can blow the poop into a pile for easier clean up but doesn't look natural.

Plant's are ok with smaller species of pleco's but have never been successful keeping plants with my bigger ones. They end up getting smashed and banged. up.

Sand, rocks and driftwood - also slate shelves to provide them shaded cover. They like shade. In nature they live in dark environments with little light. Bright lights and plants are not recommended. Oxygenation is also important, they need current.

I have gravel, a pleco cave, plastic plants , small driftwood, a big fake piece of driftwood and a few more objects that allow hiding for small plecos(I just don't have any small plecos right now).
