Pleco with fire eel and BGK in 350g tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know in my case it wasn't underfed and I think it is just a case of some just like the taste. You could try it and just keep an eye on them if you see round white spots on your knife or eel separate them. It is only a problem for the knife or eel if it continues
Also, a friend of mine just picked up a sailfin pleco for his 120g tank and wanted me to ask for him: growth rate? And how big can he actually expect it to get? It's in a 120g tank win a handful (maybe 6) of 5" cichlids for right now.

Since you seem to know your plecos, what would you say is the fastest way to grow out a pleco (pretty set on watermelon pleco and have a source locally). Does anything really help, I get they're always gonna be slow growers, but I'm hoping to speed it at least a little...
Plecos (like any fish) will grow best with clean water, low stress and good quality food. :)

as said clean water and good food, I would feed cucumbers to to help supplement the wood that should speed up the growth slightly

The sailfin will usually grow pretty fast until they reach about 10-12" then they should slow down and will probably reach 16-18"

Im not sure how much faster you can realistically make a panaque grow. I am guessing they are slow growers because of their diet and their armor. I would guess it takes them longer to develop
Nice! How big is he? Looks around a foot maybe?

Yep, about 11.5"

I'm not sure how much faster you can realistically make a panaque grow. I am guessing they are slow growers because of their diet and their armor. I would guess it takes them longer to develop since their scales are much much harder than other pleco types. But as said, keep a varied diet and perfect water for best results.

when this tank is set up, it's going to be fully plumbed so I can finally not have to use buckets and a hose to do water changes, that water will be flawless! Right now I am changing around 300g of water a week by filling up and dumping buckets one at a time... takes me at least 2 days to do weekly water changes due to the set up of my apartment...

my god man get a python it lets me change 50% water on my 100 gallon in an hour and a half with me sitting on the couch watching tv and glancing at the tank

Does that handle refilling too? I've always used a siphon and buckets, also would need to stretch about 100ft to reach the nearest drain/sink. Does it have in line dechlorinator or something (I live in a city and our water is about as bad as flint Michigan at this point...)

For my tanks that arent directly plumbed, I just drain using a long hose directly into a drain. For filling I use RO water that I remineralize. It fills 2 ~40 gallon bins that have a pump attached to them.

I dont trust our water so I want full control over it.
