I tend to have very hard water with high gh out of the tap.
With an aragonite based substrate, I typically get 8.2 with ease and 12-15kh and 15-20gh
DJRansome said it best - customize the tank mates to the pleco.
I have a 300g in the works, wrapping up the plumbing and will be going all male hap/peacock.
Moderate rockwork, and a large piece of driftwood to suit pleco species.
