Pleco's, Bioload, and Feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Couple members have seen my 180g. You'll be scared if you see the bioload I have in it. My 240g cracked so I consolidated my two big tanks into 1. I did move some to other smaller tanks, but the big guys had to stay in the big tank. Let's just say during feeding time, the floor really is covered with 8"~15" plecos. The tank gets 20 mealworms for my aro, 1/8 cup of nls and about 10pcs of 100 count shrimp. I do 50~60% WC 1~2 times a week. I do rinse my filter pads from the overflow about every 3 days. Nitrate hovers around 30 ppm. With your bioload, you should be able to get away with 1 50% WC every 10 days or so.

Do you have gravel? Have you vacuumed it? I still think the higher temp for ich is accelerating decomp somewhere in the tank causing rise in nitrate.

I have pool filter sand. I vacuum it when I do WC. Get the vac down into too.

Nitrates are down to 10-20 ppm. Guess I need to start watching Nitrate more closely. Be careful how much I'm feeding.
