plecos in the wild in N. Fl.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not allowed at that particular spot, but there are *many* springs and spring fed rivers here in N Florida that are great for snorkling (and cave diving assuming you are either properly trained or have a death wish).

I hear that plecos are good eating. I guess Floridians will now get a chnace to find out. How do Oscars taste?

where did you here that from. i heard they taste worse than mud. and i could imagine too.

I don't think I'd go out of my way to try a pleco.

Dr. Joe had a fourteen inch flying pleco land in his back yard. He also has a canal full of talapia too.

Apparently the natives just toss them in the fire whole and bake them that way. They eat them on the 'half shell' so to speak leaving the tough back skin intact. Suposedly they are similar in taste to channel cats.

ive been snorkeling in some N FL springs and its an awesome expierence. saw LMbass stripers bluegill mullet and more. it was very cold, but awesome

I heard the cook them in a fire with cow manure and when down throw the fish away and eat the cow manure!!

messiner - right now, the water is "warm". Still 72, but since it is getting into the 40s at night, it feels warm when you get in. Happiness is cave diving with s dry suit.

no insanity is cave diving

Cave diving is awesome, but I worry about getting claustrophobic.

It's unfortunate that florida has so many invasive species, but it would be awesome to have tons of free fish.
