Plecos with Anubias

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Out of the two the Royal might eat them but I never owned one. The Leopard Cactus (L114) is a carnivore so I wouldn't worry about him so much. I know my plecos dont eat my anubias unless algae grows on it and then i they leave a couple of holes but nothing serious. Hopefully someone has some first hand experience but in my opinion I would say you are good as long as you keep up with tank maintance to keep the algal growth down.

Anubias have tough foliage. Though some plecos eat algae on their leaves, they do have a tendency to bore deep scratches or holes on the leaves in the process especially if their rasping mouth is very rough.

Off topic from your question but thought I'd throw it out there. I have both of those plecos housed together right now and it is a chore to make sure that they both get the proper diet without the royal getting to much protien and meaty foods. I dont plan to keep my royal with the L-114 permanantly due to this. As far as the plants are concerned I would be more worried about them thrashing around and tearing them up than eating them but I cannot say from experience because I dont have live plants.

Keep in mind I know nothing about planted tanks when you read this.lol I believe some plants are tied to driftwood, rocks, ect. If this is your case I may lean more toward the L-114. IME the royal tends to explore up the driftwood and on the glass and the L-114 usually stays right at the bottom all the time.

I kept a Green Phantom and Vampire Pleco with Anubias before and they didn't touch the plants.
