Pleco's with large, violent cichlid.

I have a 7" gibbiceps that fears nothing. I have a 7" umbee, 6" dovii, and a 6" synspillum in a 180 and the gibbiceps will chase them out of whatever area it is in. It's really funny.

I have a common about 16" that is in with RD, EBJD, Bleekeri, FH, and GT. He ignores everybody and occasionally gets picked on. He ignores it, up to a point. It is usually the RD giving him sh**, when he gets tired of it , he will chase the Rd until he is hiding in a corner somewhere. He did the same with the 2 Oscars I used to have.

My common plec is around 7" or so and I can't keep it in my big tank because the little convicts kick it's @$$. But then again it could work...bottom line, try it (agree with adding it at night, and adding a very big one) but be prepared to get that pleco out if the RD tries to kill it.

good luck, my 13" zonatus will destroy plecos, no matter how large, it usually takes her about 2 days till they are dead, the last one I tried was probably 16", she was in a 135gal

I'd say buy the biggest pleco possible, and add a nice piece of driftwood that meets your specs and hope that your devil doesn't destroy him.

Definitely add the drift wood, plecos love it and need the hiding places

Some pleco's need the wood in their diets as well, I don't think common's do but my clown does, but I'm sure he'd appreciate it nonetheless!

Go with a common plec. but get it big, as big as you can get.

Mine's 17'' and will stand down anything in his way :headbang2

I also used to have a pair of footers that were pretty cool. 8)
