Plecos

depends upon the pleco, they do keep algae down when little but ive heard as they grow larger they may loose the desire to eat algae

They will keep the algae down quite well. I've used similar sized specimens to clean bigger tanks with alot of success. Does come down to how much light and algae grows in the tank in the first place. Also pleco's make a huge amount of waste in your tank.

Ditto. Some eat algae but most don't and have very specific dietary needs. I think it's a mistake to put a pleco in a tank and expect them to live on the algae alone. They need to be fed like any other fish we keep.

plecs can keep algae down but the make a crapload of waste... you have to really like them if you want to keep them in the longrun. also, unless the tanks overfiltered, i suggest buying another filter just to keep up with the plecos waste production.

My first 5 plecos do no sizeable algae cleaning, but my Hypostomus does.
No way i can clean the interior of my tank any better than she does.
This is the day i got her, very underfed and very green tank.

And this is her now. Look at how the stones look nowadays.

I made a deeper point in my gravel, covered with driftwood.
Most pleco poo will get stuck there and i have to vacuum the gravel anywayz every week.
But it can be a guess, like i said there were 4 plecos in the tank allready but the tank stayed green...

It will do pretty good if it is a common. I have just 1 bristlenose that is only 2 inches and he keeps my 80 spotless all by himself. My large L-114 and L-14 willl not touch the algae or the veggies for that matter. They are actually carnivores.

less light and less over feeding and more plants does a way better job than any pleco..
