Greetings,

Planning to get some pleuro babies for my christmas tank(gift to self whee), it should be between 55-75 gal. I would like to add either some bichirs or a fire eel in with them once they get over edible size(both pleuros and eel). I have seen a few pics here of pleuro adults with bichirs in a tank, but no eels.

Anyone have any experaince? Is there much agressive or does it matter on the fish's attitude and raising?

I used to have a micro which lived with 5 silver dollars as he couldn't bite them properly...Pleuros are more calm then mirco by quite abit yes?

Its better to keep any Channa alone but if your thinking about mixing with any other fish then Mastacembelus erythrotaenia is a possibility, there is a chance they might encounter each other in the wild around Western Indonesia, boardering Malaysia........But when you say about the micro not being able to bite your silver dollars bear this picture in mind......
....This is what a micro did to a Tilapia.....so your micro was just kidding you into a false sense of security haha.
Cheers,
Squirl

ive kept pleuros with bichirs. they were overly interested in the bichir for a while, nipping at him and stalking him, but soon lost interest and left him alone. i would guess as long as the eel is placid like a bichir there wouldnt be a problem

Pleuro arnt like other snakehead species, I'd say you would be fine with that mix as long as everyone is similar sized, birchirs are whimps I fine alot of fish pick on them but pleuro like to swallow food whole not tear it apart so of will likly be fine

I Keep my pleuro`s (3) with two senegal bichirs, the sens were bigger than the pleuro`s when they went in the tank, but that`s not the case anymore :d

As Gaz_ham said, they were really keen on testing the bichir`s at first, nipping at them stalking them around the tank. but after a day or two they did not pay attention to them anymore.

I would disagree with pleuros not tearing the prey apart. Mine acts like a mini micropeltes when it comes to killing prey. It would target the tail and tear it apart till the fish is weakened and they go for the kill. They are just like wolves, biting the prey till it goes down. As for the tank mates make sure the eel is large enough. My pleuros will attack any skittish fish or with flashy fins. But I do have a fire eel and a tire track eel with my pleuros so it should be fine.

how big are yours now, and what temps do you keep them at?

edit: you got them from north american pet store right? if so, what size did they start putting on color?

Mine are at 12" and I didn't bought them at NAPS. Ordered them online. Started changing the color at 6-7 inches. Temp is at 82-84F as they don't like sub-tropical temp as they become inactive and won't eat. They easily get rotten scale disease when temps get lower than 79F. Just my own experience.

Hey do the local fish stores in B.C still have Pleuros? I'll pay you to ship some over to Toronto.
