I've had this bass for about a year now and its always been unually skinny but it still ate anything I threw in the tank. For the past month I noticed that it has been spitting out its food and eating very little. It's stomach is sunken in. It will also flash occasionally. I think it may have an internal parasite. Water parameters are good. I really don't want it to die. What can I do to get him back to normal?

What are you feeding him?.....I'm not sure on the medicine for internal parasites.

Market shrimp, nightcrawlers, and occasionally minnows/goldfish although I try to avoid live. So today I relented and threw a bunch of minnows in there today. He would mouth them and spit them out.

Well feeder fish are known transmitters of parasites.... What temp is the tank at?

I seldom ever fed it feeders. I feed it market shrimp about 95% of the time. But now it just mouths anything for a second then spits it out. Water temp is room temperature--68-72F. It's been flashing a lot lately. I've done water changes with Api Stresscoat+ and aquarium salt. I've also put some Melafix in there. Nothing has helped. It still spits out food and flashes. It's been doing this for about a month now and I'm afraid if it continues it will die.

i believe melafish is made for both external and internal infections i would keep using that as directed by the bottle. along with aqarium salt. thats my best guess anyhow. good luck i hope your fish gets better.

bump the temp, melafix, and salt hopefully thatd work i believe melafix is for internal and external parasites but these things should work its just a opinion

The Peacocks have since been removed and he has the tank all to himself now. Notice the concave of the belly. The only time it would look normal is when it eats a big meal. But for the past month it has eaten very little. It spits out 95% of the food it is offered.

I see that...Did you get this guy as a baby or when he was a bit grown up?....Try something they eat in nature...maybe some crickets or a small crawdad

Yeah he was a baby when I got him. He was always skinny but readily ate worms within days of being in the tank. Of course it would take feeders. Then I got him to take market shrimp in an attempt to pellet train but that's as far as he got. There's a small crawdad in the tank that he doesnt mess with. My main concern is the spitting out of shrimp and feeders--2 meals he used to love. At times he'll attack the shrimp or feeder like he's going to eat it, then at the last minute he spits it out. It's getting really annoying.
