Yes it does a lil bit. it does stick out on the fin it reminds me off kinda like quartz rock or aquria salt crystals or somthin like that.

my oscar had somehitng like this with an open cut, its a bacteria infection go buy "anit-bacteria medicated fish food. made by jungle. see if he will eat it. if not get "garlic boost" and soak the food in it. then he will def eat it! thats what i had to do!

if it is a bacterial infection is it contagious

i treat my oscar in the same tank and the other fish ate the food too. they never broke out with it. so i would say no!?!?!? sorry i only know from what i did!

Thanks alot does any body else have any opinons on this. any coment is welcome

my turtles got a bacterial skin infection...i used some medicated tablets in the water to clear it up, worked well. i have NO IDEA if that is anything like what your fish have, but if it is...treating the water could keep it from spreading.

i had a rapheal cat in the tank as well as some jaguar cichlid babies once when i used it and some african cichlids another time....didnt seem to have a negative effect on the fish...so based solely on that i assume it is safe for the fish and would treat the water.

so would any body else want to chime in is it indeed a bacterial infection and thats what i need to treat for

You said you don't have a Q tank ready.
Do you mean that you have no tank or you don't have it READY?
If you don't have one go out and get one.
To get one ready all you have to do is get a HOB, fill it with medium from your already running filter, fill tank with the water that's already in your tank, and add a heater, and you've got a Q tank ready.
Anyways, when you get your Q tank, I would start out by using Melafix and Pimafix, add salt and bump temp to ...80? And see how he dose.
