Here in Asia (I am in Japan) "Violet snakehead is a common name for Channa Aurantimaculata (the fish I posted in my last post.)

locally, through a dealer. it wasnt listed as a "violet", but i saw a very similar fish in a (what i believe was a) Taiwanese magazine going by this name. searches on internet mention barca's common trade name as "violet snakehead". appears the name is commonly misused.
yes i agree def. not an auran. only questions i have left are whether it's a stewartii var. or whether there's multiple kinds of "barca" from different collection points and thus a) different appearence/size anb b) value?
so either prices have come way off or the seller has it wrong. I believe many of their fish come via thailand/SE asia so perhaps this fish was collected somewhere between india and thailand... in which case again, questionable whether it's a true barca.
