I have this really nice resin root with little fake bushes all over it, almost 2 feet long in my 75 gallon tank. It looks really nice, but of course there's a hole at the bottom for water to seep through and as you might've guessed some of fish like to hide in there.

My larger Ropefish was actually stuck in there for a week and I had to pull the whole piece out and gently yank him out of there.

It's getting really annoying, not so much because he's not around to be seen, but because he usually misses out on feeding time because of that, (He goes WAY in there.), so I want to plug it up.

I had an idea to put plastic over the entry, using a sheet of plastic with small holes in it originally made for a tank divider.

I cut it to fit the shape, but I don't know how to keep it on there. Anyway, my question is, is there any kind of glue or sticky stuff I can use to fit the plastic piece over the hole that won't harm my fish?

Well if the hole is small, just use aquarium sealant. But if it is large & you want to fill the entire cavity, get some spray pond foam.

why not put a bit of stocking over the hole this will allow water to get in but no fish can pass and if you get the right colour you shouldnt notice it

I had a similar problem with a castle decoration when my ARTC was small. I just took a milk jug and a razor blade and cut some of the bottome corners out of the jug. Then I squeezed the pieces into a tube shape and stuck the open end into the hole. When they popped back open it plugged the hole, and didn't stick out much. Of course he is an ARTC so he just busted the back of the castle opened and swam in there, but that's a problem you probably won't have. The plugs are still in there and still work now, about a year later. You could use a touch of silicone to hold the piece from going too far into the log if needed.

aquarium safe silicone.

i wont use foam cause that would make if float to the top. i would silicone a piece of mesh over the hole

Go to the marine section of the LFS and get some aquarium-safe epoxy. It's made for use on live rock and corals, etc., so it's designed to be put onto wet surfaces and it holds super-fast.

silicone is the best for filing holes... theres a stickie about different sealents... but ill save you the trouble.... homedepot/lowes GE silicone 1.. gray tube, blue label... if i remember correctly it lists it as being for windows and doors
