I recently recieved a cracked 30 gallon filter and fixed the leak with plumbers putty because i am impatient. will the plumbers putty in the filter kill fish.

I posted this in two threads to get a quick responce. so... Twice. and no silicon was not accessable at the time that i had the putty... so of course i put the putty on and its been holding. i will test it out on feeders first before anything else

I had to use milli putt on a few pipe joints in my tank so if that's what you used yes it is safe

Plumbers putty is petroleum based and leaves an oily residue, so I wouldn't use it in an aquarium. It is used for sealing between two flat surfaces such as the bottom of a faucet and a sink - not for plugging leaks, so I would not trust it to hold.
