I'm getting ready to plumb my 220g tank. The first thing I need to do is to get the standpipes built. I've been looking, and can't really decide which standpipe design to go with.

Here are my options:

Durso standpipe (basic design I've used in past)

Hofer Gurgle Buster

Stockman Standpipe

Which one do you guys prefer and why? Or is there another design that you like better? I've used the durso before, but have had issues with noisy drains. I don't know if its a fault in the design, or if I just built them wrong.

have the stockman desing on the 135g I got for free, perfectly silent and a strong flow rate.

durso because on the other 2 if you dont have enough or large enough holes it will slow your flow rate.

never used the others, but all the Dursos ive built have been very quiet. here's a video of the durso on my 57g planted

I guess I'll go with a durso, and just follow the instructions better.

The main problem I have is that the 220 has dual overflows, which means its more difficult to get both overflows running silently. That's kind of why I liked the Hofer model, it seemed a little more flexible.

Another reason I like the Hofer is because it fits into a smaller space better than the Durso does. I may not have enough room for a durso, so I may have to go for one of the other two... I'll measure when I get home to see.

take a look at the note on the stockman, he went with a bigger hole.

Sounds like you've already talked yourself into the hofer pipe.

Not really, it just seems better suited to tight spaces than the Durso. I'll have to measure when I get home and see how much space I have to work with.

I'm mainly wanting other peoples experiences with each one, to find out what worked as advertised and what didn't.

I have only used the Durso. If I had another one to do, I would do the others to try them out. I suggest you use a threaded bulkhead and then you could always swap out the drain pipes if you are unhappy with the one you chose.
